“We are ready to provide things: hindi lang sa financial form, kung hindi a touch nga mahatag nga respect sa PWDs,” Governor Samuel T. Gumarin said during the Magna Carta for Persons with Disability (PWD) Orientation on June 22, 2018.
65 stakeholders from different sectors, agencies and partners of Guimaras attended the said acitivity at the GTIC function Hall organized by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
Governor Samuel T. Gumarin emphasized the help that can be extended to the PWDs.
“Sometimes, they couldn’t see, they couldn’t hear, nakadepend sila sa aton para makahear kag makakita sila, in other words kinanglanon nila ang imo kag aton bulig,” he said.
The said event aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of Local Government Unit (LGU) workers and to update stakeholders on the policies, strategies and directions in program implementation.
Furthermore, Ms. Elena Salazar, Social Worker Officer II, Department of Social Welfare and Development(DSWD)- Guimaras discussed the Republic Act (RA) 7277 as amended to R.A. 9442 (Magna Carta for PWD).
The R.A. 9442 (Magna Carta for PWD) purpose is to provide persons with disability, the opportunity to participate fully into the mainstream of society by granting them at least twenty percent (20%) discount in all basic services.
Meanwhile, Mr. Perseus Ledesma Cordova of Disabled People’s Organizations Humanity and Inclusion Handicap International shared the Batas Pambansa Bilang 344 Inclusive Environment and Ms. Dolores M. Laudenorio of National Anti-Poverty Council Region VI, Regional PWD Consultant tackled Batas Pambansa Bilang 344 Barrier Free.(PIO-Guimaras)
