One with the theme: “Synergy in Sports: Working for World Class Guimarasnon Talents”, 2,545 athletes and coaches of private and public schools from the five municipalities of the Province of Guimaras participated in the 2019 Guimaras Schools Sports Council Meet (GSSCM) Opening Ceremony.
Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Novelyn M. Vilches formally declared the games open during the said ceremony at Sibunag Municipal Ground, Sibunag, Guimaras.
Mayor Annabelle V. Samaniego of the Municipality of Sibunag proudly hosted the event and welcomed the guests, visitors and athletes.
The Municipality of Buenavista has a total participants of 498 ,Jordan with 495 athletes and coaches, Nueva Valencia with 605 participants, San Lorenzo with 345 representatives, Sibunag with 302 athletes and coaches and in addition of the Guimaras Private Schools Athletic Association (GPRISAA) with a total participants of 300.
Governor Samuel T. Gumarin cited the significance and effects brought by the creation of Guimaras Sports Commission (GSC).
“Aton nakita for the past two years since sang declaration kag pag organize sang Guimaras Sports Commission nag improbar kita kag nakapadala sang 13 ka mga athletes sa Davao to represent Western Visayas sa Palarong Pambansa,” said Gumarin.
The GSC was created through Executive Order No. 55 in order to envision that with a strong dynamic and organized sports development organization and program that can produce athletes of national calibre and become the gracious host to both regional and national competitions.
Further, Romar Jay Ga, a wushu athlete of 2019 Palarong Pambansa led the Athlete’s Oath of Amateurism.
Kenneth Espartero, Romar Jay Ga, Joylyn Gabasa, Myra Efondo, Kith Haniel Magoliman and Kimberly Colaste, 2019 Davao – Palarong Pambansa Athletes, led the entrance of the Torch of Friendship and the lighting of the Urn of Peace and Unity.
The GSSCM is a five-day event accommodating the different sports such as ball games, athletics and aquatics.
The said sports event has participants from elementary and secondary level both public and private schools.
Moreover, the GSSC Meet will determine who will represent Guimaras province in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet next year.
