The City Civil Registry Office in collaboration with the Red Ladies of Iloilo City, Inc. will be holding a free mass wedding for indigent couples on February 28, 4 o’clock in the afternoon at the Iloilo Esplanade main entrance in Benigno Aquino Avenue.
A total of 176 couples registered for the mass wedding as of Tuesday.
“The Iloilo River Esplanade is not only one of the favorite destinations in the city for local residents and tourists alike but now also a chosen venue for weddings,” Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog, who will be the officiating officer, said.
“We chose the Esplanade as venue for this mass wedding because we want to showcase it and let the people know its importance in the further development of our city,” he added.
Sen. President Franklin M. Drilon will stand as principal sponsor.
“The couples will not be spending any single centavo in this event,” stated Chit Rejaba, president of Red Ladies of Iloilo City, Inc.
Aside from the free wedding, the couples will receive free weeding rings and bouquet. The oldest registered participant is 74 years old while the youngest is 18 years old.
