Dr. Luis M. Sorolla was elected as the new president of West Visayas State University (WVSU).
Before election to the Presidency at WVSU, he served as the President of the Western Visayas College of Science and Technology (WVCST). He will be the 7th president of WVSU, succeeding Dr. Pablo E. Subong, Jr.
He Graduated his Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management (Benemeritus) at the University of Iloilo in 1993, and his Master’s degree at western Visayas College of Science and Technology in 1987. He finished his Bachelor in Industrial Education in this institution, at that time named Iloilo School of Arts and Trades (ISAT) as Magna Cum Laude and as the Most Outstanding Graduate. His secondary education was likewise completed at ISAT and he was consistently in the honor list. His elementary education was taken at Aglanot Elementary School, Dumarao, Capiz where he graduated as Valedictorian.
At present, he is the National Vice President representing the Visayas Area of the Philippines Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC); the Vice Chairperson for Visayas of the Philippine Association for Maritime Institutions (PAMI) and the Board of Director for the Regional Association of National Government Executives (RANGE VI). His post at WVCST is currently occupied by Dr. Carmelo V. Ambut, WVCST Vice President for Research and Extension, as the Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the President.
