The longtime dream of having Iloilo-Guimaras Bridge will soon be a reality as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is now pushing for the construction of the project.
Buenavista, Guimaras mayor and League of the Municipalities (LMP)-Guimaras Chapter president Eugene Reyes confirmed that the building of bridge linking Iloilo and Guimaras will soon start.
In an interview over Bombo Radyo Iloilo, Reyes said DPWH secretary Mark Villar announced the project in a LMP meeting in Manila.
Guimaras governor Samuel Gumarin also welcomed the support and go signal of the DPWH, hoping that the construction will start next year 2017, with the help of public-private partnership (PPP) and the national government.

Iloilo governor Arthur Defensor Sr. also expressed his support to the project, saying that “it is beneficial to the growth, development and progress of the entire province and city of Iloilo.”
“It will boost the production not only in Iloilo, but also in Guimaras,” he added.
No details of the proposed Iloilo-Guimaras bridge have been disclosed yet, but they are looking at Leganes and Buenavista as connecting points. [With reports from RMN Iloilo, Bombo Radyo Iloilo]
