Department of Tourism (DOT) recently announced the official itinerary of Miss Universe, and surprisingly, the previously scheduled visit to Iloilo City is not on the list.
Tourism secretary Wanda Teo released the final 16-day itinerary and schedule of events of the Miss Universe, which will start on January 14 in a photoshoot at Boracay island.
Teo said that the ancillary event in Iloilo, initially scheduled on January 19, was called off due to conflict in schedule. The location shoot in Albay was also cancelled due effects of typhoon Niña.
It was Ilonggo senator Franklin Drilon who requested to Teo to include Iloilo in the list of destinations of around 90 candidates.
“Iloilo’s many tourist attractions – such as the Miagao’s Church, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Iloilo River Esplanade and the Iloilo Convention – along with the colorful culture and cuisine of Ilonggos and heritage houses, will ensure that any guest will leave Iloilo behind with so many good memories of this place and its people,” Drilon said.

Two or three of the candidates will arrive this weekend and the rest will land in the country on January 13.
After the Boracay shoot, the candidates will go to Vigan for a fashion show on January 15 followed by Governor’s Ball in Manila on January 16, a swimsuit show in Cebu on January 17, a strawberry-picking event in Baguio on January 18, location filming in Davao January 19, and a beachwear photoshoot in Batangas on January 19.
Candidates are also scheduled to have a courtesy visit at Malacañang on January 23.
