Getting access to science and technology experts and their researches is made easier as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) gears to go full-swing with the portal of Network of Experts in Science and Technology (NEST) next year.
Project leader Engr. Rowen Gelonga, who is also the regional director of DOST 6, said that the project had its soft launching in July during the 2015 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW).
“We are in the process of populating the NEST,” Gelonga said.
Gelonga explained that NEST will host vast compilation of knowledge coming from DOST and from other government agencies.

The web-based information contains database of experts, consultants and/or subject matter specialists; existing technology databases, portal and mobile application software for accessing experts, technologies and services; DOST consultancy programs and services; deployment of science and technology development officers at the provincial level; cloud services and information and communication technology support.
Gelonga added that they also intend to link NEST with STARBOOKS (Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk).
STARBOOKS is the first Philippine science digital library containing thousands of digital science and technology resources including videos of livelihood programs that could inspire aspiring entrepreneurs.
It has 650 kiosks nationwide, 72 of which are in Western Visayas.
