Department of Health (DOH) recorded three additional mortalities due to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the country, bringing the total deaths to five.
DOH said that these three new deaths were among the confirmed cases of the COV1D-19 in the country labeled as PH6, PH5, and PH37.
PH6 was initially admitted at Cardinal Santos Medical Center on March 5, and was thereafter transferred to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.
PH6 suddenly experienced difficulty of breathing and was intubated late evening of March 11. She expired the same night from acute respiratory distress syndrome due to severe pneumonia secondary to COVID-19. Repeat chest x-ray showed progressive pneumonia. PH6 is a known diabetic.
PH5, the husband of PH6, also expired late evening of March 11 due to notate respiratory distress syndrome from severe pneumonia secondary to COVID-19. PH5 is a known Diabetic and Hypertensive who developed Acute Kidney Injury.
PH37 was admitted on March 6, at the Philippine Heart Center, after experiencing onset of symptoms on February 28. PH37 was confirmed with COVID-19 on March 11 and was reported to have existing hypertension.
The patient expired this afternoon, with Acute Respiratory Failure as the cause of death.
DOH also reported earlier today 3 additional positive COVID-19 cases (PH50-52), bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 52. The DOH and deployed surveillance teams, in cooperation with concerned Local Government Units, are now conducting extensive information-gathering and contact tracing activities on the new cases.
“So we continually ask the public to cooperate and help us in the investigation and contact tracing activities. Individuals with history of known exposure to a positive patient and/or travel to areas with local transmission, within and outside the country, presenting with mild symptoms are advised to self-isolate and be home quarantined for 14 days. Those presenting severe and critical symptoms need to be immediately admitted to health facilities. Let us be responsible with our own health, family’s well being, and that of our community.” the Health Chief concluded.
