The 70-year-old patient positive with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has passed away, the Department of Health Regional Office 6 said.
Dr. Mary Jane Juanico, head of Infectious Disease Section DOH-6, confirmed that the patient who was admitted at Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) died last night, March 29. Aside from COVID-19, the patient labeled the patient as WV #16 had Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and diabetes.
The patient had no travel history on places with community transmission of COVID-19.
Juanico said that the DOH-6 is still waiting for the copy of his death certificate.
Patient #16 is the second mortality of COVID-19 in the region. DOH-6 previously announced that patient labeled as WV #11, a 72-year-old male resident of Iloilo City, died last March 21.
He had Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and community-acquired pneumonia – a high-risk patient.
Based on the latest data of DOH-6, there are 16 confirmed cases of the fatal disease in Western Visayas. Bacolod City has 5 cases, Iloilo Province has 4, Aklan has 4, Iloilo City has 2, and Capiz and Negros Occidental recorded 1 case each. Guimaras and Antique are still Covid-free.
As of March 29, DOH Central Office confirmed that there are already 1,418 cases of COVID-19 in the country, with 343 new cases. Total number deaths is now at 71 and recoveries at 42.
