Department of Health in Region 6 announced that there are 68 new Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Western Visayas, with one additional death.
In a press conference on Wednesday, DOH announced that the additional death is an 80-year-old male from Bo. Obrero of Lapuz district in Iloilo City. On July 3, he manifested symptoms of on-and-off fever, loose bowel movement and shortness of breath.
The patient was immediately brought to the Covid-referral facility, samples were taken last July 6 and the patient expired the day after, July 7. The result of his COVID-19 test was released earlier today, July 15.
DOH said that they have already coordinated with barangay officials of Bo. Obrero and Iloilo City Government for the contact tracing.
For the 68 additional cases, 28 came from Negros Occidental, 21 from Iloilo Province, 13 from Guimaras, and 3 each for Iloilo City and Bacolod City.
DOH also reported that there are already 64 health workers in the region infected with COVID-19. Of the number, 45 are medical practitioners such as doctors, nurses, midwives, radiologic technologists, and medical technologists.
In total, the region now has 679 COVID-19 cases with 12 deaths.
