Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas announced that there is already local transmission of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the metropolis.
In a press conference on Monday, Treñas said that the second COVID-19 case in the city labeled as WV #11 has infected another patient in Mandurriao labeled as WV #34.
“I’d like you to know that we have a case of local transmission in the city,” Treñas said. “Our Case no. 2 who passed away had a contact with our Case no. 4.”
Patient WV #11 is 72-year-old male from Iloilo City, with history of travel to Manila, and had fever and cough. He died last March 21 due to COVID-19, Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), Community-Acquired Pneumonia-High Risk.
According to the latest COVID-19 Case Bulletin of the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development, WV #34 is a 59-year-old male from Mandurriao district who had close contact with WV #11. He is hypertensive and diabetic and still admitted in the hospital.
DOH-6 has already initiated contact tracing of all possible contacts of WV #34.
The DOH regional office reported that as of 8:00 A.M. of April 5, there are already 34 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Western Visayas. A total of five patients have already died, and one who has recovered. (Photo by CMO Media Team)
