There will be no classes for preschool to senior high school, public and private in Iloilo City on Thursday, November 7, 2019 due to heavy rains to brought about by Tropical Storm Quiel.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas announced the class suspension after receiving recommendation from City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) regarding the rainfall advisory of PAGASA Iloilo.
Around 11:30PM of Wednesday, PAGASA reported that “between tonight and tomorrow evening, Tropical Storm Quiel and the tail-end of the cold fron will bring light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains will be experienced over Aklan, Iloilo, Guimaras, and islands of Palawan (including Calamian islands)”.
Here’s the announcement on class suspension of Treñas:
As of 8PM tonight, PAGASA Iloilo Radar already recorded 23mm total amount of rainfall considered as orange rainfall advisory or intense. In this case, the CDRRMO recommends the suspension of classes from pre-school up to senior high, both in private and public schools. These are considered vulnerable population and should be protected from the possible effects of heavy rainfall. I am therefore ordering the suspension of classes from pre school to senior high school both in private and public schools.
Please keep safe everyone.
