Good news for residents of Brgy. Lanit, Jaro as Iloilo City Council has passed an ordinance approving two new jeepney routes that will make relocation site more accessible.
The barangay is home to Iloilo River Plains Subdivision, a housing project of national government serving as relocation site for over 1,000 families displaced by improvements at Iloilo River and widening at Diversion road.
Councilor R Leone Gerochi, chairman of the city council’s transportation committee, said that the new routes are the (1)Barangay Lanit via Barangay Buhang, Jaro – SM City Iloilo and vice versa, and (2) Barangay Lanit via Barangay Ungka, Jaro – SM City Iloilo and vice versa.
The new routes are expected to further develop the Lanit area economically and open up business opportunities for residents, he added.
Here are the details of the new routes:
Barangay Lanit via Barangay Buhang, Jaro – SM City Iloilo and vice versa
From the relocation site, turn right to by-pass road – turn left to Circumferential Road – turn right to McArthur Drive (Barangay Buhang) passing the National Food Authority (NFA) – cross the bridge to Barangay Simon Ledesma (Jaro Small Market) – turn left to Lopez-Jaena Street – turn right to Plaza Jaro – turn left to Plaza Jaro (Jaro Cathedral) – turn left to Castillo Street – turn right to Commission Civil Street – turn right to Jalandoni Street crossing the bridge to Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao – turn right to Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue.
In going back to the point of origin: From Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue (fronting SM City Iloilo) turn right to El 98 Street crossing the bridge to Jaro Big Market – turn right to Jaro Plaza – turn left to Castillo Street – turn left to Plaza Jaro passing Land Bank of the Philippines – turn right to Washington Street crossing the bridge to McArthur Drive in Barangay Tabuc Suba passing NFA up to Barangay Buhang – turn left upon reaching the Circumferential Road – turn right crossing the bridge to the by-pass road – and turn left to the point of origin.

From the relocation site, turn right to the by-pass road – turn right to the Circumferential Road – turn left to Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue going to Barangay Ungka terminal – turn left to Barangay Sambag, Jaro passing Central Philippine University (CPU) – turn right to Plaza Jaro passing El 98 Street crossing the bridge to Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue – turn left to Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue – enter SM City Iloilo loading/unloading bay.
In going back to the point of origin, turn right to Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue – u-turn fronting Plazuela II – turn right to El 98 Street crossing the bridge to the Jaro Big Market – turn tight to Jaro Plaza – turn left to Castillo Street – turn left to Jaro Plaza passing Land Bank of the Philippines – turn tight to Washington Street – turn left to Democracia Street – turn left to Simon Ledesma Street – turn right to Banana Crackers passing Lopez Jaena Street, CPU and Barangay Sambag – turn right to Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue passing Barangay Ungka – turn right upon reaching the Circumferential Road – turn left and cross the bridge to the by-pass road and turn left to the point of origin.
