Commission on Higher Education has announced that the Enhanced Student Financial Assistance Program (STUFAP) Scholarships and Grants for poor but deserving students enrolled or intends to enrol in duly authorized higher education institutions (HEIs) are now available.
Dr. Rex Casiple, Supervising Education Specialist of CHED-6, said that the three programs under the Enhanced STUFAP include the Scholarships, Grants-in-Aid (GIA), and the Study Now Pay Later Plan (SNPLP) programs.
The Scholarship programs include the State Scholarship Program (SSP) and the Private Education Student Financial Assistance (PESFA) Scholarship.
Casiple said the SSP consists of Full Scholarship and Partial Scholarship, where full scholarship is intended for high school graduates whose general weighted average (GWA)is at least 90 percent or its equivalent, and for graduating high school students whose DWA is 90 percent or its equivalent in the third year and at least 90 percent, in the first three grading periods in the fourth year, who will enrol in priority courses in duly authorized public or private HEIs..
The Partial Scholarship, on the other hand, is for high school students whose GWA is at least 85 percent or its equivalent and for graduating high school students whose GWA is at least 85 percent in the first three grading periods in the fourth year, who will enrol in priority courses in duly authorized public HEIs.
These full and partial scholars will receive P30,000 and P15,000 financial benefits per academic year respectively.
The same requirements are set for the PESFA scholars who will receive P15,000 financial benefits per academic year.
Meanwhile, the GIA program includes Tulong Dunong (TD) intended for high school graduates whose GWA is at least a passing and for graduating high school students whose GWA is at least a passing grade in the third year and in the first three grading periods in the fourth year, who will enrol in priority courses in duly authorized public or private HEIs.
TD is also for students with earned units in college with at least a passing grade for the last two semesters and enrolled in priority courses in duly authorized public or private HEIs; as well as for students who passed the Alternative Learning System and the Philippine Educational Placement Test.
The GIA TD scholars receive financial benefits on tuition and other fees as billed but not to exceed P12,000 per academic year.
The Study Now Pay Later Plan is a loan program intended for deserving students enrolled or to enrol in priority courses in duly authorized private HEIs, where the qualifiers receiveP15,000 financila benefits per academic year.
Dr. Casiple said that interested applicants must be a Filipino citizen and must possess the requirements stated above; must have a combined annual gross income of parents/guardian not to exceed Pa300,000; mus avail of only one CHED scholarship or financial assistance program and must not be a graduate of any degree program.
Student applicants should submit accomplished StuFAPs application form directly to CHED Regional Office VI, while those who intend to enrol at the SUCs shall submit accomplished forms directly to concerned SUCs before March 31, 2015.
The enhanced STUFAP is a financial assistance implemented by government in compliance with the provisions of the ?Constitution that the State shall establish and maintain a system of scholarship grants, student loan programs, subsidies and other incentives available to poor and deserving students in both public and private HEIs.
