One of the health workers in Alimodian, Iloilo who tested positive for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) did not follow protocols and infected seven family members.
Dr. Jessie Glen Alonsabe, regional epidemiologist of Department of Health Center for Health Development Western Visayas, revealed that the erring health worker breached the protocol when she went home before the results of RT-PCR test was released. The health workers was among those five frontliners who were reported positive for COVID-19 last June 29.
DOH previously reported that 13 from Alimodian is positive for COVID-19, five of them are health workers which include three midwives, one nurse and one medical technologist.
The health workers were infected by a locally stranded individual (LSI) labeled as WV175 who is positive for COVID-19 and quarantined in the town’s facility.
Alonsabe said that one of the health worker has close contact with WV175, and possibly infected four fellow medical frontliner when she took off her personal protective equipment (PPE).
Local transmission
Alonsabe confirmed that the cases in Alimodian are classified as local transmission as the infection came from the locality.
Swab samples were already taken from 48 close contacts of the health workers; 34 from personnel of rural health unit (RHU) of the town and 14 from members of the family of positive cases.
