Around 50,000 vacancies will be made available by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and its partner agencies to kickoff the Labor Month celebration in May.
Two simultaneous job fairs will be held in the cities of Bacolod and Iloilo in May that will be participated in by more than 200 local companies and overseas recruitment agencies.
Joven Tansi of the Iloilo Federation of Information Technology (IFIT) said that Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies alone need 12,000 workers this year.
Aside from the job fair, other activities for the month-long celebration include the Search for Outstanding Workers in Region 6, Seminar-Workshop on Stress Debriefing for Guidance Counselors, Workers’ & Management Consultation, Outreach Program for Kasambahays and their families and Sportsfest for DOLE-RCC employees.

The celebration will culminate in a street party dubbed as Workers’ Night or ‘Fiesta Sa Mayo Para sa mga Obreros Year 4,’ highlighted with the awarding of the winners of the Search for Outstanding Workers in Region 6 as well as the awarding of Certificates of Appreciation to participating local companies and overseas recruitment agencies, partners and intermediaries.
DOLE Region 6 Director Ponciano M. Ligutom said that the Labor Month culmination activity has been institutionalized in the region as part of the effort to give due recognition to workers who have contributed much in nation-building. [via PNA]
