2GO Group, Inc., the Philippines’ largest integrated transportation and logistics provider, in partnership with the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), a government agency under the Department of Transportation integrating the development, promotion, and regulation of the maritime industry in the country, are granting all qualified seafarers a 20% passenger fare discount as a tribute for their valuable contribution in the national and global economies.
“Seafarers play crucial roles in driving the global supply chain by enabling the movement of goods for consumption, including raw materials for manufacturing. We recognize Filipino seafarers and our very own 2GO crew as modern-day heroes, not only in our country, but from all over the world,” 2GO Vice President and Head of Sea Solutions Dan Fernan commemorated.
Starting this month, all seafarers serving the domestic and international markets may avail of the 20% discount on any accommodation aboard 2GO Travel ships upon presentation of a valid Seafarer’s Identity Document (SID), Seafarer’s Identification and Record Book (SIRB) or a MARINA issued license at the time of booking at any 2GO retail outlet nationwide. The fare discount will apply to the seafarer whose name appears in the document.
The grant was officialized in the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement on Fare Discount For Seafarers last September 7, 2021.
MARINA Administrator VADM Robert Empedrad AFP said in his address to seafarers and ship operators, “Almost two years since the COVID-19 pandemic struck, our seafarers are aboard ships doing their jobs, while some of their families are dying, and some of them are dying also. Not only do we consider our seafarers as essential workers, but we also consider them our modern-day heroes. We want to show them our honor by giving back as part of our initiatives to extend assistance to our seafarers.”
“To ship operators and owners, we would like to express our gratitude for your gesture in signing a memorandum of agreement with MARINA to offer fare discounts for our heroes, the seafarers. Hindi sila nag-atubili na magbigay ng positive response, and for that, we’re very grateful. Thank you very much,” he concluded.
Seafarer Ronnie Haguimit Castalla expressed his appreciation through the live video’s comment section, “Thank you ma’am, sir, may discount kaming marino sa pagsakay ng mga barkong domestic.”
