The 19th Philippine University Games (UniGames) will open today at the University of San Agustin (USA) in Iloilo City with a ceremony to be held at USA Gymnasium at 5:30pm following a mass at USA Chapel at 3:30pm.
USA president Rev. Fr. Frederick Comendador, OSA; Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog; and representatives of Iloilo City’s Rep. Jerry Treñas; and Iloilo governor Arthur Defensor Sr. will welcome delegates and guests to the occasion.
Around 300 Augustinian and Ilonggo artists have collaborated to showcase their talents for the opening program.
Performances from USA Troubadours, USA Band, Paraw Regatta Suite, Unity Crew (Kawilihan USA with College Dance Crews of the University), and Iloilo Dinagyang Tribes (Tribu Ilonganon and Tribu Panayanon) will add color to highlight the ceremonial activity.
“We are going to set a festive mood on this event,” said Fray Stephen O. Tan, OSA, chairman of UniGames 2014 steering committee.
Kiefer Ravena, an Ilonggo and UAAP Season 77 Most Valuable Player, will lead the Oath of Sportsmanship.

Some 2,600 athletes from 41 colleges and universities from all over the country will participate in the UniGames which will run until October 28.
About 13 sports events will see action as scheduled for the competition: athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, football, karatedo, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, and beach volleyball.
